Dreaming of Santorini

As I sit indoors trying to escape the thought of leaving the house into -4 degrees, all I can think about is my most recent holiday to a stunning Greek island. Also known as the place-to-be for beautiful images and a romantic setting.

Santorini is simply the most attractive place I have visited to date. It's steep hills and rolling scenery of blue domed roofs needs not to disguise how pretty it is. The hidden beauties however are exactly what made my holiday so special.
Visiting with my boyfriend Luke, we found a sweet little apartment at Anna's Apartments resort which is literally a stone's throw from the airport (and the runway!) so we were fully aware it wasn't going to be quiet 100% of the time, which in all honesty does not bother me in the slightest as flights arrived/took off about 5-10 times a day and we were so busy we didn't even notice.

We hired a quad bike to whizz around the island, getting from one side to the other in 45 minutes blew my mind!

Santorini looked beautiful from all parts of the island, it's black sand was something to get used to and the rundown areas are hard to ignore but it is no surprise why it is so popular. The close runway was actually a sight to behold one evening when we were making our way into town for some cocktails when a flight was coming into land and we had our own Toy Story moment with the plane swooping only about 10 meters above our heads nearby building!

My favourite evening was spent at an Open Air Cinema, watching Pride. The film quickly became one of my all time favourites and the atmosphere was something I will never forget.

Anyone that has been to Santorini will tell you that you HAVE to go to Oia and see the sunset, (even if you do sit there for 2 hours to secure a spot). We happened to arrive in the middle of a free running event sponsored by Red Bull so the small windy streets were impossible to manoeuvre around and we managed to find a spot on some steps to watch the wonder.

The island is so small you could cram all of the things to do in one week, however if you don't, its an excuse to go back!

Where is the most beautiful place you have been on holiday?

What being a university student has taught me so far

Being a student has definitely been one of (if not the best) the best decisions and experiences i have had in the 20 years i have been alive so far. Not only have i made incredible friends and moved out of my family home, i have also been through some life lessons (although still being wrapped in bubble wrap slightly- thanks ma and pa!)

Despite the heavy and most obvious lessons, here are a few i have experienced so far that aren't so bad.

Daytime television is your best friend and worst enemy. I can remember countless amount of times where i have heard (and said) the term "I'll start work after this episode of Jeremy Kyle" (shoutout to my housemates for this one!) and still not being able to peel my eyes from the bad teeth and Jeremy's gaze at the camera.
This being said, in the same respect I will always be grateful that I have such a powerful distraction from reflective journals and infographics, even just for a few minutes (hours).

17 types of People you see on 'Jeremy Kyle'

No matter how hard I try, telling myself I'll do work at home never works. Before a lecture/seminar: "I'll stay at uni for hours & finish loads"
After a lecture/seminar: "Screw this. I'm at where the nachos are at. Home"

No one is actually in competition with you. Though some people still seem to think life is a game and everyone's success must be compared, this is actually not true. Real friends in real life would actually love for you to do well, in the same way you genuinely wish the same for them.

It's human not to get on with everyone.

Communally being hungover the next day is the best bit about going out. Either that or the reassuring fact you're all consuming copious amounts of junk food makes it all worthwhile.

Old school music will always be better than the new stuff. Knowing that miming into a bottle of wine to 'I like the way you move' is entirely normal to your housemates has to be encouraging, no?

What new lessons have you learnt?
